2024 Challenge: Be Present in Your Life
By John Millen
A few years ago, I had the honor of giving a toast at my daughter’s wedding. Following the advice I give my clients, I kept it brief and spoke from my heart:
Sometimes we miss the moments in life. We spend time worrying about the past or thinking about the future.
Instead, I think the secret of life is to be right here, right now and take in the magnitude of this moment.
The opportunities for distraction have never been more powerful in the history of our species. No doubt these distractions will increase.
Today our most precious resource is our attention, our focus. In 2024 your greatest and most challenging commitment may be to be present in all the moments of your life.
Thich Nhat Hahn, a Buddhist monk who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King, Jr., expresses it perfectly in his book Inside the Now: Meditations on Time.
The Happiest Moment in Your Life
Has the happiest moment of your life come yet? If the most fulfilling, uplifting moment of exaltation has already happened once, it can happen many times more. But how can we help that moment come more often, especially when we want it to?
If in the last thirty years that moment has not come, then it’s not that likely to come in the next thirty years and perhaps it never will. Don’t just dream about it. The secret is to produce that moment ourselves. When? Right in this moment.
You need to wake up! Wake up to the wonders within you and around you.
If you know the way, then any moment of your life can become the happiest moment of your life.
As you enjoy these holidays, try to take in each moment with those you love because hey may never come again.
Blessings and happiness to you and yours in 2024 and beyond.
